When the budget process started in May, there was a $60 million deficit that had to be addressed. The Board and Administration negotiated back and forth and made a number of adjustments to get the deficit down to “only” $26.6 million.
Throughout this process, Deputy Superintendent of Instruction Karen Waldon maintained that the School Administration budget “was very tight”. However, when the Division represents such a significant portion of the budget, one would assume that some cuts just had to be made to ease the budget deficit crisis.
Cue the drum roll – bring up the music – and ta-da!
Total positions cut from School Administration – ONE.
And from what I can gather, the position cut was an Administrative Assistant.
I am speechless.
