APS – New Candidate for BOE – Anne McKenzie Announced Today for At Large Seat 9

In today’s Atlanta Progressive News, Matthew Cardinale writes:

Anne McKenzie, a former Atlanta Public Schools (APS) teacher, is running for the APS Board of Education (BOE) At-Large Seat 9 that is currently held by Emmett Johnson, who is not running for reelection.

“I am a thirty-six year [APS] employee.  I’m retired, but I did work in the Atlanta Public Schools for 36 years – I was an English teacher …”

As previously noted, Jason Esteves and Mary Palmer have already announced their candidacies for the At Large Seat 9.

Anne – welcome to the race – we look forward to finding out more about your views on the critical issues facing APS.

One Response to APS – New Candidate for BOE – Anne McKenzie Announced Today for At Large Seat 9

  1. H.A. Hurley says:

Ms. McKenzie may be a wonderful person and a great teacher, but my concern is that APS has had a very long history of hiring and promoting from within. There is an advantage to know a school system, but never having been anywhere else, not experiencing better systems, more innovative systems, more worldly systems…often limits experience and knowledge.
We need to be more than the system most newcomers avoid.
