Breaking – In a surprise move, Board of Education calls emergency special meeting – does NOT approve NAHS prinicipal Taylor’s promotion [Updated]

The Atlanta Public School Board of Education today called an emergency special legislative meeting to consider the promotion of NAHS principal Dr. Howard Taylor to the Executive Director of the North Cluster. According to sources at the meeting, Nancy Meister made the motion to approve the promotion, however no one seconded the motion and it failed.

Per Mark Niesse from the AJC on Twitter, Dr. Taylor is still being offered the position as principal of NAHS – the position he resigned from last Thursday (see here).

[Update] Additionally, the AJC reports here that BOE Chair McDaniel stated,

Taylor has an offer pending for him to stay as principal, and he can compete against other applicants to become a regional executive director for Atlanta Public Schools

A meeting is scheduled this evening at Garden Hills Elementary School – 285 Sheridan Drive, Atlanta, GA 30305 – from 6:30~8:00 p.m. Associate Superintendent Steve Smith and BOE member Nancy Meister will be in attendance.

Updates as I receive them.
